A few years ago, I posted a nude photo of a woman with stretch marks on her belly taken by me in the group and talked about my views on photography in general and nude photography in particular. The photo and what I shared touched a group member on her journey to find and cherish the femininity as well as heal and grow from her past hurts. A few months ago, she contacted me to book me a photo shoot. We had a pleasant shoot and it also reminded me that it’s important to say what I think or feel, because it might be somewhere, someone sympathize with me and we can make a lasting connection.

Loving yourself, it sounds like a simple thing because it’s clearly who you are, if you don’t love yourself, who will? But it turned out it wasn’t. During my career of, I met people and heard stories that were sometimes sad. Some people never believe that they are beautiful because their mother always criticizes them as ugly when they were a child. Some people go to plastic surgery because they believe that only beautiful women, like a model, can be loved, unfortunately the surgery is unsuccessful and they suffers a lot of pain… Each person has their own story and journey to remember and to tell.

Sometimes I wonder how long it will take for us to realize that life is more colorful because we are different with different types of body? Loving yourself probably starts with accepting yourself first, daring to do what you want to do and changing to make yourself better. Of course, it’s always easy to say, not easy to do. Sometimes it takes years to do, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Remember, “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself”, Choco Chanel said, just in case you need a celebrity quote to convince yourself.
